Lost Creek Falls

My husband and I have recently become big fans of the app All Trails.
While looking for a new hike in Provo canyon, we came across the hike to Lost Creek Falls. Neither of us had heard of it before, but we ended up really enjoying the hike.

Location: Provo Canyon
Directions: Drive up Provo Canyon. About 7 minutes up the canyon you will see a sign on the right side of the road for Nunn’s Park. Turn right and follow the road until you get to a crosswalk. Turn left at the crosswalk and drive under the bridge. Find a place to park your car. Right next to the bridge you drive under is a second, older paved bridge. It leads to a fenced-off area. That is where the hike begins. Follow a dirt trail on the left side of the fence until you get to a utility road. Go right onto the utility road. Hike until you come to an old outhouse without a door. At that point, you will turn left and start hiking up a steep utility road. This trail will lead you up to the waterfall.

Length (round trip): about 2.8 miles
Difficulty: Difficult; The trail is pretty steep and includes about 1,000 ft in elevation gain. The last ⅓ of the hike isn’t a very well-groomed trail and includes hiking over a dried riverbed.
Steepness: This hike is steep during the middle of the hike up a maintenance road. We stopped a few times to catch our breath.
Low Points: The trail wasn’t well maintained as we got closer to the waterfall. There’s not much shade during the hike. The trail gets rocky and isn’t very good for dogs. We watched a couple of people carry their dogs.
Highlights: The trail wasn’t very highly trafficked. The waterfall is beautiful and fun to climb up to see the upper layers of the falls. It’s not a very tall waterfall compared to Bridal Veil Falls on the opposite side of the canyon.
Our Adventure:
We decided to hike on a late Saturday morning in June. It was getting pretty hot outside as we hiked. Definitely bring water with you! After crossing the old bridge and hiking a little ways by the chain-link fence, we came across an old small building on the left side of the trail with graffiti on it.

We enjoyed the hike and realized just how out of shape we really are haha. We eventually got to a point where we crossed a small stream with the waterfall runoff. At that point we had the option to go either right or left. We chose the left because it looked like it would be quicker. We did a lot of hiking through bushes and across the stream bed.

We saw some beautiful weeping rocks and even stopped to let some run down our heads and backs because of the heat.

Eventually, we made it to the base of the waterfall. It wasn’t a very big waterfall, but it looked like we might be able to climb up higher and see more of it.

The hardest part of climbing higher was getting past this smooth rock surface. My husband and I really enjoyed the climbing because we were able to put our new rock climbing skills to good use. I wouldn’t recommend climbing unless you have shoes with good grip.

Here's some views from higher points of the falls.

On our way down from the falls, we were amazed at how beautiful it was to see Bridal Veil Falls on the other side of the canyon. It was so cool to be able to see the whole entire fall.
While hiking Bridal Veil Falls you can only see the bottom two tiers of the falls.

I would highly recommend hiking to Bridal Veil Falls and Lost Creek Falls on the same trip because of how short the Bridal Veil hike is. You can read more about hiking Bridal Veil Falls by clicking on this link!
